We don’t own a car in Taipei and Hongkong, and are proud of our car-less lifestyle. Unfortunately one definitely needs a car living in Dulan. We’ve been renting all these times. The car rental guy next to the train station in Taitung knows us well.
This little 4-wheel drive is the chosen one. It’s small but roomy inside. Sits 5 persons comfortably. It will take a while to get used to owning a car and do the things that car owners do, like being a member of a particular petrol company, using a particular type of petrol, car wash etc.
