The road condition further up from Sandimen seems pretty treacherous. We decided to turn back after about 3 kilometres.
Back to Sandimen village proper. The village is laid out neatly on a grid, with streets just wide enough for one car. They are mostly pedestrian only, as the local people would use the streets as their open outdoor space. We see mainly old people there.
Sandimen is a Paiwan settlement, known for their slate houses. Unfortunately, not much of these traditional houses remain, all replaced by the modern concrete houses.
A helpful local offers to show us around.
The swing features prominently in traditional ceremonies.
A must-visit place is this restaurant, run by our friends Sakuliu and his wife Qiu Yue.
